Open call for Imodoye Writers’ Residency

The Imodoye Writers’ Residency has called for applications for its inaugural edition. The three-week long residency is located at the An-Nur Gardens, Fate-Tanke, in Ilorin, Kwara State, and administered by a Residency board.

The First African Cover Poet for World Poetry Magazine, Emeritus Professor Niyi Osundare is one of Imodoye Writers Enclave's Patrons, alongside Dr. Isiaka Aliagan, Col. Dele Babajamu, Dr. Mrs Cecilia Etche and Mallam Abdurahman Aderinoye.

Former Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Kwara State Chapter, Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi is the Founder and Chairman of the board, whose other members include Kwara ANA Chairman, Mr. Babayemi Opeyemi, Mr Danjuma Adamu, Dr. Mrs Betty Ige, Abdulwahab Gambari, Miss.Aisha Akanbi  and Mr. Al-amin El-Nasir who is also the Director-General of the Enclave.

A press release by the Chairman of the board, describes the Imodoye Writers Enclave “located in the heart of Ilorin, Kwara State as a fresh literary regalia and potential historical monument; being the first writer residency in the Northern Nigeria, the Imodoye writers enclave provides an inspiring atmosphere to sprout out creative works besides the odds and shrewdness of daily work and life.”

Interested writers are to send their completed applications to imodoyewritersenclave1@gmail.com before 23rd June, 2022.

Applications should include a page bio, including publications, and writing credits, a sample of your work in progress, and two recommendation letters. 

All applicants are to include description of the work to be undertaken while at the Residency. And all applicants must be fluent in the English language.

The Residency Board will be providing stipend to successful applicants. These will cover feeding and other needy expenses during the period of the residency.

The Imodoye Writers Enclave Writers’ Residency is open, for now, to writers only based in Nigeria, published or unpublished.

Responsibilities of selected applicants will include organizing literary activities; touring & teaching students from selected schools in Ilorin as part of Imodoye Writers Enclave contribution to the growth of creativity in Kwara State.

Two best applicants will be chosen for each series of the Residency, selected based on merit.
